Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
Everyone wants to go to Hogwarts, right? Well, here are ten books that I *wouldn't* want to step into any time soon!
(10 proved to be impossible! I had to cheat and lump some books into categories!)
1. Any book in which my survival depends upon killing other people.
The Hunger Games, Battle Royale, After the Fear
2. End of the world/disaster scenarios - earthquakes, meteors, EMPs... anything that ends with me fighting someone for the last jar of pickled herring. Or living without heat and electricity. Or going days without bathing. I'm no survivor, is what I'm saying.
3. Books in which there are vampires - not Twilight vampires, but terrifying vampires who want to kill me.
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, The Hunt, The Farm
4. Books in which I am not able to love who I want to love - or worse, am forced to be with someone I don't love.
5. Any book in which there are zombies! Love to read about them, have no desire to live in a world in which I might encounter one. Plus I'd be among the first to die, because I could never leave my pets to die and it would be pretty hard to be on the run with a dog and four cats.
This Is Not a Test, The Forest of Hands and Teeth, Enclave, Reboot
6. The Unwind series. Particularly if I was under 18!
7. The Across the Universe series. I struggle to think of a more horrifying scenario than waking up on a spaceship surrounded by strangers, knowing that everyone I've ever cared about is long gone.
8. The Uglies series. These books seriously freaked me out and I really can't imagine living in this world. I barely managed to get through having my wisdom teeth removed!
9. The Host. Aliens crawling in my ear to take over my body?! No thank you.
10. Stolen. I struggled so much with my feelings just reading Stolen, so I can only imagine actually living through an experience like that.
What books/settings do *you* want to stay far, far away from?

Great picks, all! I haven't read Battle Royale yet but I hear it's brutal. *shudders
I have yet to read some, like Stolen and Host, and Uglies, too, and am excited for the last ones especially.
Happy reading!

I'm SO with you! I couldn't kill another person (though in that situation, that could change) and I would hate to not be able to love who I love. Aliens and outer space both are NOT for me! Yes, pretty much this whole list!

GREAT list. Ugh, especially the Host. That creeps me out still.

Oh yes there are some terrifying worlds up there. I would have to add Pure by Julie Baggott and The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey and The Hallowed Ones by Laura Bickle.

Battle Royale is definitely brutal, but it's great!
I have so much love for the Uglies series. I feel like the world is so original, and I found it to be incredibly creepy.

So, so creepy!

I haven't read any of those yet although The Fifth Wave is on my list! I will have to check out the other two.

It is! I seriously need to bite the bullet and learn some of the ins and outs of Typepad! So many times I really struggle with it. I can't even tell you the angst involved in getting these pictures neatly arranged into this post.

Stolen was a dark horse for me, I really did not expect to like it at all and I completely loved it.

I have my moments too, but after two and a half years I have it pretty much figured out. Shoot me an email if you need help,

I wouldn't cut it in an end of the world scenario either. I get too panicky and I'm a small girl so I'd probably just be better off to die in the initial disaster. I also would not want be in a zombie world... freaking scary!! And the Chemical Garden world is just depressing, so NO to that!!
Thanks for stopping by My TTT... great list :)

Fantastic list! Dystopian fiction may make for page turning reading but I'd never want to live in any of those worlds! Or worlds with zombies or vampires...

So many of the books I love have worlds I wouldn't cut it in!

Totally agree!

Great list! I definitely don't want to be in any of those worlds! Especially the ones where I have to kill other people to survive or am forced into being with someone that I don't want to be with. Great list & thanks for stopping by my post :)

I really want to read Delirium now I have seen it on a couple lists. I don't like anything chasing me either, vampires, zombies, no thanks on that one!
Thanks for stopping by my list!

Yeah, I'm doomed in any sort of survival setting!
Posted by: The Avid Reader | 01/29/2014 at 08:39 PM
Delirium is a series I have mixed feelings about, because I LOVED the first book, I thought the second was a little less great, and I have issues with how the third ended. I think the series as a whole is worth a read, but go into it knowing that book #1 is by far the best!

Thanks! I had fun with this one. :)
