Today I'm participating in Top Ten Tuesday with The Broke and the Bookish. It's a freebie this week. so I'm listing the top ten villains in young adult literature.
If you're joining in, be sure to go link up!
- President Snow from The Hunger Games. I absolutely adore this series, and President Snow really gives me the creeps. I don't know what's more disturbing, his fixation on Katniss or his obsession with blood red roses.
- Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter series. I know this one may be debatable to some but ohhhhh, do I dislike this guy!
- Mayor Prentiss from The Knife of Never Letting Go. I've seen some people cite Aaron as another significant villain from this book, and I agree, but there's something about how much power Prentiss has that makes him truly terrifying. There's not much scarier than that perfect blend of crazy and powerful!
- Mrs. Coulter from The Golden Compass. And her golden monkey too!
- Drake from Gone, and even moreso for the rest of the series. Here is a character without a single redeeming quality. Plus, the hand seriously freaks me out!
- Dolores Umbridge from the Harry Potter books. I see her as very similar to Drake in that she just takes so much pleasure in the suffering of others. There's another layer of creepy to her when you add in the kitten obsession!
- Jeanine Matthews from Divergent. Mind control serum? Now that's truly evil.
- The white witch from the Narnia series. As a kid she scared me to death.
- The Volturi from Twilight. Again I think a lot of what makes them so scary is the power that they yield.
- The Strigoi from the Vampire Academy novels. Way to take vampires and make them even more terrifying!
Who are some of your favorite young adult villains??
Ugh, this list. I have my hair on edge! I hated Unbridge so much, Draco was an ass, the strigoi, oh man, SCARY! Ms. Coulter, that *****! -.- And President Snow. :X Brrrr! Great list.

Ooh great topic, I may have to use it one day. :) Draco I think was a wannabe-villain, I really grew to care for him as a character as the story progressed. Umbridge, though, double ugh. She deserved everything she got!!
President Snow gave me the creeps too, big time!

Umbridge was possibly my most hated character throughout the Harry Potter series. But that was also why I loved her character. Heh. President Snow was so creepy too, I really disliked him in the second book. And Jeanine Matthews! Evil doesn't even cover her. Great list!

Mrs. Coulter and her monkey - even in print she gave me shivers, but when Nicole Kidman played her in the movie, it cemented the deal for me. Pres Snow was also written so well - the evil doers you love to hate!!

I totally agree with Mayor Prentiss and Dolores Umbridge. The fact they had power and used it in such awful ways is pretty terrifying. I've seen this topic a couple times with Aaron and Bellatrix on it... and I just think of those characters as crazy. Crazy is scary because it is unreasonable, but I think it is far worse to be a person that is reasonable, but uses that for evil purposes. I dunno, I guess I prefer my villains to have a little substance to them. haha.

Great choices! Umbridge would definitely be number 1 on my list--I swear I hated her even more than Voldemort!

Ooh great choices! I can't believe I forgot about Draco!! I almost put the Strigoi on my list too, but then I left them off. Love your villians!

Mrs. Coulter and her evil golden monkey. Totally agree! She is not a nice lady. And Dolores Umbridge from HP - like you said, she takes way too much pleasure in inflicting pain on others. Scary lady :)
Fun list!

Really great villains list! We have Snow and Jeanine Matthews in common, and I really like that you included the Strigoi. I was trying to think of a villain from VA to mention, but you chose the exact perfect one. And yes so much to Dolores Umbridge - she's so evil!

Thanks! I think Voldemort is definitely up there, but man there is just something about Umbridge that really gives me the shivers!

I went back and forth on including Draco, but honestly I just really disliked the little weasel. Even when I felt bad for him.

Agree with so many of these! Jeanine, Snow, Draco, Umbridge, Mayor Prentiss, White Witch. It's making my skin crawl just thinking about these characters!

I love how you included Umbridge and Draco Malfoy but no Voldemort. That makes me giggle! Awesome list. President Snow is the worst. Thank you for stopping by my blog!

Umbridge might be my favorite villain. She's horrible but she tries to act so sweet and innocent. A haunting, creepy combination!
